Time? How about a 1000 years so far. And Christianity is a awful comparison, since they were always prosecuted. They were into blowing themselves up and forcing people to belive their way.
As a soldier in the US Army who just recently came back from Iraq. I agree we are not really fighting a major war anymore. But I have this to say. Just like any other war it is a major war and we have had less soldiers die in this war than any other major war. IE WWI, WWII, Korean, or Vietnam War. It is really hard seeing your friends and comrades injured or killed or even hearing about it. It is sad for the families that have soldiers out there fighting or dying. But this Army right now has been 100% volunteers. Every single soldier is over there because they made the decision to join. They were not drafted in or anything like that. Right now we are just acting as a police force there. and we are rebuilding what we destroyed to make a better life for the people there instead of making them rebuild there own homes or cities. Now knowing that our soldiers are technically policemen over there right now and if you look at the statistics. more policemen have died in the US since this war has started than soldiers over there. Just like for anyone else that chooses a dangerous job protecting and serving. there are going to be casualties. As far as Muslim religion is concerned the muslims that live in this country may not accept any other religion but they do not kill for it. So why can it not change there as well. I agree it would be a hard battle with many casualties but it is really only your extreme muslims that are doing the killing. And frankly there are only so many extremists out there. Maybe they will kill themselves off or they may chicken out or they may realize they are going about it all wrong. You can never completely stop all the killing that goes on anywhere. If we did that than everyone would be on some kind of wierd drug living in some odd utopian world. But if we pull out now we leave many innocent people to die. And no I am not a fan of George Bush but I am a supporter of my country and the soldiers helping to keep my country safe. Thank you Troops.
I understand what you have to say, but i still disapprove of your view. This is a political war just like Veitnam.
I say we stay, If we leave, they will think we are retreating. They will take that advantage and go for an attack
Political or not, we have to stay. The U.S. got into this mess, it's their job to clean it up. Of course, it's ultimately up to the Muslims within Iraq to stop fighting to end the fighting once and for all.
Well either way, no matter how much we debate it, were staying. We've basically turned this place into another South Korea
I think they should leave Iraq as they have worried families and would love them to come home. If my brother is going to Iraq, I dont know what I would do without him.
If we leave everyone will revolt and the leader like Saddam Hussian will take contorl. If we stay we can slowly restor order(this could take ages and is very cotly in both money and lives)
Grr Saddam is dead... we only need 5 people to search for Ladden so I say we pack our shizzle up and leave.
I dont care what you guys say, I dont want my brother to go to Iraq to fight. He is studying law and a lawyer he shall become. Not a soldier.
Only need 5 people to search for bin Laden? Haha that's funny. We've been after him for several years now and we couldn't find him w/ the US forces in Iraq. The US can't leave. They did too much in the Middle East just to see radical Islam take over again. If the US leaves, Europe will be the next target of the Muslim terrorists and trouble has already started in Europe already.
The best thing for Iraq is for America to leave and for another dictator to take over. I haven't read the other posts yet because I have to leave for a New Years party soon, but I wanted to post to get this off my chest for now and expand on it later. The US are causing problems, some citizen don't want them there and people are dying. The US should leave. If the US left, even if there is a democratic government, it's not wouldn't hold up and everyone knows that. It will turn into the situation similar to Germany's after WWI when the country had no money and people could barely scrap together a meal. This is how Hitler took power. Even though Hitler's ultimate goal was evil, he gain the support of the people because of how he transformed the country. He took Germany out of a depression and turned it into one of the most powerful countries in the world fighting a coalition of the world's strongest countries on at least 3 fronts for almost 6 years. If the same happens to Iraq where a dictator takes over, internal violence will eventually die down and parents would stop having to worry about feeding their children everyday, food will be on the table. This will obviously be at the expense of personal liberties but I don't think they would mind when the country has stability for the first time in how long.
The problem with staying in iraq is that it is a major resource hog for our military. And while less soldiers have died than in any previous war many more have been seriously wounded and left without limbs or totally disfigured. It is important to take into account total casualties rather than just deaths.
The only reason he got the "support of the people" is because they had nothing else to turn to. Just like the several countries part of the former USSR are converting to radical Islam for hope. Anyway, if it doesn't stop, the situation will reach Europe, which has already started, and eventually come to North America. Political isolationism can be dangerous also.
They need to get out of there. We did what we came for which was to liberate and set a democratic government in place...
This may be true but there would be too many problems if the US left: 1) The Iraqi military is weak. It wouldn't last a week. If the US is sturggling so much sometimes, how the hell is the raqi army supposed to keep the country in order? 2) The democratically elected government isn't favoured by the whole country. Iraq is divided by 3 or 4 religions. One religion has a majority so their representative one (the one also backed by the US go figure). The other religions don't like this guy because they want someone of THEIR religion up there. There would be a civil war involving pretty much the whole country if th US left.
Leave. I mean ...some of the soldiers were asked what they're fiqhtinq for...and they can't even answer...
