Ok, open up any new document, and add in your background and text and whatever else, make a new layer (SHFIT+CTRL+N).

Now put in what you want to flash on the new layer (If your using text it will automatically create a new layer, unless your already putting it on an empty layer!), I'm going to use text.

K, now that we have what we want to flash we're going to move it on over to Imageready!

Once you have Imageready open, click on Window>Animation and now you will have an animation box open, with 1 box in it already.

Alright, click on duplicate layer (I'm going to use the image below from an old tutorial)
And now you will have 2 boxes in it.

Ok, this one is really easy, with the second frame STILL SELECTED click on the eyeball for the text in the layer box.
This will make it so the text is no longer see-able (Makes it invisible!)

Now that the text is no longer visible. Click on the Tween box.

A new window will pop-up, type in any number for how many frames to create, the lower amount there are, the less amount of time it will take, the more there are the longer it will take. I'm putting in 5.
You should now have 7 Frames like me.

Hit shift+ctrl+alt+s to save it as a gif and you will get something like this.

If you want it to make it fade and de-fade do this.

Still with the 7th frame selected, click on the eyeball box for the text layer again (This will make it visible again).

Now that the text is viewable again, click on the tween box.

Again, type in 5 for frames to add. Now you should have 12 frames!

Now you have flashing text, if you want to get rid of the fade effect you can also do this.

    1. Delete all the frames that you made earlier so you only have 1 frame again WITH THE TEXT SHOWING!
    2. Click on Duplicate Frame.
    3. Click on the eyeball box.
    4. hit shift+ctrl+alt+s
    5. Save and now you have a faster flashing text!

If it goes too fast for you, you can edit how long each frame lasts! Just click on these drop-down boxes and select how long you want it to last.

If you change it to 0.1 Milliseconds it will go SLIGHTLY SLOWER!

    And this ends my tutorial!

Imageready is pretty much the exact same as Photoshop, just you can animate a bit easier (You can animate in Photoshop too but its not as easy :D)
