BUT I won a Mystery Island PB from the battledome, so I guess it evens out

It's really worth looking into. Since you have the lab ray, I'm assuming you have a pet with 20+ strength (adopt one from the pound if you don't). Get yourself 2x Ridiculously Heavy Battle Hammer (~800np each) and a Slime Potion (~600np). Battle against the Chia Clown on easy until you reach your 15 prize items limit, and you'll make an easy 25-150k from the Codestones and Faeries you win. That's how I get my seed money for my shells.

If your pet is a stronger (50+ strength, 100+ hit points) invest in 2x Scroll of Knowledge (~50k each) and a Blue Scorchstone (~140k). Battle the Tiki Tak man on hard. People have been getting paintbrushes left and right from him since the update!

 

Thanks for the information! Do the tiki tack man also give island paint brushes on easy? Hard is too hard for me ...
