sure smoking is bad. but there is a lot of people that are addicted and it would cause A LOT of problems. People would just try to sneak it and stuff. then get in BIG trouble

    1. You could theoretically do all of those things without the internet - go to a charity's HQ and as if you can volunteer, and you could go to a library for the rest of examples.

    2. I'm not sure what you're trying to say with the beginning of your second point... charities in relation to cigarettes? what?

    3. Way to over generalize and stereotype. Addictions stem from the good feeling you get when you are doing something - which you get from certain chemicals in your body. People can get addicted to anything - television, sex, videogames, youtubing, exercising, etc, etc. So no, you don't need to be an 'utter anti social nerd', or 'a person with an eating condition' (was this for the chocolate? cause if so, then does every kid who likes to eat chocolate a lot have an eating condition?), nor a 'high maintenance rich girl' to be addicted to videogames, chocolate, or jewelery

    4. As for the whole charity thing, I don't think there really is a line of selfishness; your average person works fairly hard for their money and should be able to reward themselves if they want. Some people are just more caring then others - 'selfishness' is just a socially constructed concept and there is no unbiased standard for what is 'selfish'.

Well if you look at it this way , smokers are just paying to kill them self. It is like a slow suicide.

This is why I support full drug legalization. It happens anyway, why not capitalize on it, make a profit, and lower the cash flow to gangs. (who use the drug profits to buy guns and other worse products)

You do have a valid point Pandar, but it's a question of ethics... as a society we must be seen to do the best we can and at least attempt to uphold laws, without them we wouldn't last very long. By legalising many hard drugs it would look like we encourage the use of them and I don't think that would do much good.

Why not find ways to stop people starting in the first place (drugs and cigs), prevention is far better.

What do you think could be feasable ways to stop kids taking up the habit in the first place?

Ethics can kiss my ass right now. With the economy I really rather put ethics behind fixing the money problems. Legalizing all drugs would have more industries set up, which comes with more jobs. It'll also do exactly what the government wants people to do when there's an economic recession -- buy things.

Nobody is going to find a possible way to stop doing drugs and smoking cigarettes, it's impossible. People have always done it, and they always will.

    I'm a smoker too
But i dont think it should be illegal
Experience shows us that Kids are magneticly pulled to things that are forbidden
So if you declare smoking illegal it will only stop the ones who know what it can do with your body
The others would find a Way to get cigarettes and then sell them

I think they keyelement on this is information
If you enlighten (hope its the right word) the kids about what smoking can and will do to theyr bodys
It would have a greater effect on them

    Sample for that
In a few german schools are people with larynx cancer
going to the the classes to inform the pupils what could happen if they smoke
The number of smokers on this schools has been halfed since that programm startet
    thats what i call success

If the person (who smokes) knows of the consequences and if it doesnt cause any inconvenience to others then it his/her choice.
I dont think it should be completely illegal!

Did you know that chinese are developing a new electronic cigar which doe not have harmful nicotin in it but lets out smoke like a real one!!!Read it in the news paper..But it is going through heavy scrutiny! ;)

Well, I am yes and no on this question.

Yes: It should be illegal because it causes an unnecessary number of deaths each year, and our community does not need smoking and addictions. I would say that it would be much better for the community and everything to have smoking illegal. It's just that even if we made it illegal, too many people would still be smoking, and there aren't enough cops to catch even close to all of them. It's just that it's too popular, overused, and too hard to ban.

No: I think taking out tobacco and smoking lops off a big part of the economy. If you think about it, if smoking was illegal, the farms, the factories, the workers, the companies, the taxes, etc. all dedicated in the making of tobacco-products would lose their jobs and what not. It would be a very big loss to the economy, and the economy isn't doing too good.

To be honest, I believe smoking should be illegal.
Some might say it's their own choice to smoke, but then people like me would say this:

It might be your own choice to intoxicate your body with deadly poisons, but you have no right to be intoxicating other people's bodies with that poison that just came out of your mouth, carrying other various germs with it. Also, might I add, that when you're suffering that long, slow and painful death, your family will know that you spent your last minutes in agony and pain, gasping for breath.

Smoking does not just intoxicate people, but it makes the area look like a dirt ball, in my opinion.

Smoking is disgusting and I think it is one of the filthiest forms of suicide. Smoking will eventually kill you and potentially those around you. I know that it's addicting, but still! Do they really view a couple of smokes as more valuable than the life they have been given? How about those around them who see what they're doing to themselves and feel so helpless because they don't know how they can make it stop?
I think it is also COMPLETELY moronic how smoking has been made glamorous in the eyes of society. I see nothing spectacular or fame-worthy in mucking up your lungs with cancer-causing carcinogens.

In my opinion, smoking should remain legal - but that's not to say I approve of it. I think smoking is disgusting and just another way to kill yourself, and it's horrible that so many people are taking it up. However, if smoking was banned all at once, what would it do to the economy? Cigarettes and tobacco manufacturing is a huge part of the economy, and banning it all at once would cause thousands of people to be laid off, and cause many companies to go out of business. So illegalizing smoking should be done gradually, if done at all.

use to be a smoker not now but no it would be smarter for the law to get rid of drinking first I meanmore innocent people die from others drinking then they do from others smoking. Besides the way the prices are going more people have already quit smoking because its just starting to cost too much

The problem is they're both choices to be made and niether directly harm anyone else except by the carelessness of a few that partake of either. The rest of those that enjoy smoking and drinking moderately, in the company of their friends, or that only do so privately, should not be punished for the actions of those few, nor should they be punished for the ignorance of those that would punish them for it.

I agree, but if it's illegalized it might just make people want it even more, and think it's a "cool" thing to do because there's a risk of getting put in jail... and that would make the situation even worse.
