Main problem with vista for most people would be the security issues and compatibility issues. Though you can change the compatibility in the program's properties and run as admin, most programs probably still wouldn't work if they are not produced by microsoft. People who aren't IT savvy would find it frustrating to have access to system files because of all the security and crap. Requires you to have knowledge of ownership and setting the right permissions, which isn't a common knowledge among general computer users.
When I first used Vista (pre SP1) I absolutely hated it. It was buggy, resource hog, leaked memory. I heard all these were fixed in SP1, however I am in love with Windows7. Windows7 is what Vista should of been .
Vista is killing me too . I got a HP Laptop, cost me $800USD and vista makes it so slow, plus the internet always freezes and restarts . Its so annoying . *kicks laptop*
I don't think that's Vista. Maybe your internet fails, or something your laptop fails, or you have a virus.
nah may not be JUST the vista depends on ram, if its less then 2GB RAM then yes main problem but to freeze and restart sounds like a over heating issue like the one I just had, maybe needing comprresed air to clean out the dust in fan and cooling thing yada yada, i downgraded to xp and did that and now my computer is much much better!
I honestly don't have too many problems with Vista. It's gorgeous and rarely crashes too badly; it's about the same (crash rate) as XP, really. Although it is buggy in areas that XP was not.
I think Windows 7 will be really good. I tried the beta, it was amazing...everyone will forget about Vista by then See, always a happy ending for OS from Microsoft. Now, browsers are a different story :|
Cons: -compatability -security annoyances -annoying navigation -XP had a better means for viewing images in a folder without opening (previewing) -mainly the compatability issues I do like how it looks though Windows 7 should be good - apparently Vista without the annoyances?
Honestly, tharoux, I never had a problem with my vista! So I really want to know why people hate it too. I never got any sort of security warnings what so ever, then again I uninstalled the whole Norton crap that came with my HP laptop unless you'e not talking about that. I've had no problem getting programs to work either, maybe those odd programs that vista don't support. Vista does everything I tell it to, which isn't much to be honest, so maybe that's why I don't have a problem with it? It never annoyed me or anything and I love how it looks. I can view things in a folder just fine, pictures can be made into small thumbnails in a folder so you can see without opening. Conclusion? Maybe for hardcore computer users, Vista might be annoying, but to me Vista is just an upgrade from my 8 year old XP computer. Vista's been serving me well over a year now. Gotta give thumbs up I think vista deserves a lot more credit than it gets, at times.
Well, those are all optional. You can change the settings for the security...compatibility, it'll remember you're settings, and I don't really see anything wrong with navigation
Everything is wrong with Vista I wanted to buy an XP Labtop but they stopped selling That's the only reason why I got Vista
Having just come from the Microsoft Windows 7 Tiki Tour where a Microsoft Rep told us the MS point of view on Vista, WHY Windows 7 is coming out, threw out Windows 7 RC DVDs, and then took Q and As, I have a few points to make about this subject. First, let me start by stating that I am an IT professional. I do warranty work for several companies including HP and Dell, Vonage Authorized Service Professional, McDonald's Wayport, AT&T ConnecTech Technician, AT&T Warranty Technician, as well as many others. I went and bought a new laptop last year because mine finally gave in. It had Vista on it. I was REQUIRED to downgrade to XP by several of these companies because it is IMPOSSIBLE to do a lot of the required tech work on Vista without installing third party applications. What that means is that when HP pays me to come work on your computer, I am REQUIRED not to have Vista on my computer. Microsoft's response? "Seven will include all the tools that were available in XP." Second, I have heard no-one mention the network problems that Vista introduced. Sure, if you up the security settings on ALL the XP machines in the office the troubles start to diminish. (Hope you don't have too many and don't want to spend days, literally changing user security settings so that now they have the same rights they had before, it's just more complicated to get there). But then throw a system that's running ANY other OS and the troubles start compounding again. Now put a printer on an XP machine and try to access it. (BTW, if anyone wants the work around on this, PM me and I will be glad to help) Microsoft's response? "We went WAY overboard on security. It's understandable that we did, though. All we kept hearing is that Windows is NOT the most secure OS. Well, now it is. Windows Seven is a happy medium. The security settings are much easier to change and have many more options for the end user." Third, why is the OS so slow? It really takes THAT much longer just to load the system? REALLY? Ah, no it doesn't, you just have to know where to change all those settings. Microsoft's response? "More settings, easier to find, and the OS ships with most of what most users will never use disabled. Seven boots AND runs applications FASTER than Vista." Fourth, Vista is too hard to navigate. It's too hard for the average user to find anything. That's not really the bad part, though. The bad part is the help that MS lacks when users try to find something and can't. When Vista starting coming standard on new computers, I spend a VERY LARGE amount of my tech calls just going and showing users where to find their old familiar tools. If you're going to change something that drastically, you HAVE to give some help, don't you? Obviously you don't HAVE to... Microsoft's response? "We have included a much easier to user 'search' feature that actually DOES help the end user." And you know what? I tried the NEW search feature out and it IS helpful. Microsoft's official, number one reason why Vista failed, though, was far from why I though it failed. They claim they didn't market the OS enough before it was released. As for the comment in the topic starter, Windows 7 IS Vista. It's Vista after MS listened to what everyone had to say about it. It's after they fixed everything they thought they needed to fix. My initial thought of Seven after hearing this was not that great. But I got to try it out and I really think it's one of the best OSs MS has ever released. This should say a lot since I think the tie for Seven is DOS 6.2!!!
I LOVE when people know what they are talking about !!!! The way I see vista is that MS wanted to take a GIANT step. They took all the nice ideas they had and putted them together but along the way, they missed the point of the OS. Fortunately for us, they listened to what we had to say and used this to make an OS that might well be the best thing since windows is multi-threaded.
